Who We Are: Monarch butterfly on Swamp Milkweed

Who We Are

We started this nursery with the desire to educate and promote both the use of native plants in the landscape as well as growing your own food. We propagate the majority of our plants from seed and some from cuttings/division of plants established in the garden or on the land. None of our plants have been live harvested from the wild. We use sustainable and organic practices in our nursery and our garden.

There are so many amazing plants in the world! It is complex to devise a philosophy about which plants to make available based on native status and/or behavior. There are many considerations in distributing plants that have the potential to alter landscapes. We are excited to collect more seed and make more plants available as time goes on. Practicing environmental stewardship is important to us and we intend to continually educate ourselves and others in order to make these complex choices in an ever changing world.

About Our Biodegradable Pots

We are virtually surrounded by plastics in the consumer market. The large majority of items for sale are in some form of plastic: bag, bottle, jar, etc. Our sale pots are made of recycled material and are biodegradable. We also make all of our plant labels from wood. We are making a concerted effort to avoid selling anything plastic. It is important to us to show responsibility in what we are sending out into the world. We hope that our efforts and investment will help increase and/or reinforce awareness in our customers and others in the community. If you do not have the means to compost our pots please return them to us...please do not throw them in the trash or the recycling (we believe in recycling though we do not have complete faith in the system as it exists currently). Thank you for the support and help in this effort!
